the notebook (final)

When Lon proposed to Allie, she said yes but couldn’t help the fact that Noah instantly popped into her head. Noah was her first true love but she still couldn’t understand it. She hadn’t spoken to Noah in years, in fact she hadn’t spoken to him since that one summer night when they had an argument over her parents and he said that it was over. Her parents packed up and left town the next day, dragging Allie along with them. She was completely in love and happy with Lon but she knew she had to go see had to go see Noah. She needed closure. The closure she never got.
When Allie arrived at Noah’s house that he had built especially for her, she was shocked to see him. She couldn’t believe that it was actually him standing in front of her and that he had built the house exactly the way she had told him to. She almost couldn’t even move when she saw his face. It took her back to that summer that they had spent together, the summer that they had fallen completely head over heels for each other.
She and Noah spent the next few days together. They caught up on the time they hadn’t see each other and on their plans for their future. They were still in love. How could they not be? Neither of them knew what was about to happen, if they did, then Allie might have stayed well away from Noah in the first place. They made love, time and time again. Noah just wanted to make Allie happy. That’s all he’s wanted to do ever since he met her, and that’s why he built the house, for her, to make her happy.
Allie’s mother came to Noah’s house. Of course Allie was surprised to see her. But her mother decided that Allie was now old enough to know what she had been hiding. She gave Allie a bunch of letters.
“All this time you hid them from me?!”
“It was for your own good, Allie. You two were living completely different lives, there’s no way that you could’ve stayed together”, her mum tried to explain, but Allie didn’t want to hear it. She was infuriated that her mother did that to her. “Oh and Al, Lon’s in town”.
“What? Lon’s in town?”
Her mother simply nodded and drove away. Allie knew that she had to make a decision. She now had to decide between Lon and Noah. She needed to be completely honest, not just to herself but to them as well. She and Noah had just spent the past few days together and they had been amazing. She had never felt so much passion with someone before. And the fact that she lost her virginity to Noah made her decision that much harder. On the other hand, she was happy with Lon. He completely trusted her; they had built a life together and had so many plans for the future. And the best thing is that she and Lon never fought. She had made her decision.
She immediately went and found Noah. She explained everything to him hoping that he would understand. “Noah I came to tell you that I’ve made up my mind”, she said cautiously.
“And?”
“Noah, I...I... really don’t know how to say this without hurting you”, she stammered, trying to find the courage to say what she had come to say, “I chose Lon”.
“Lon? You chose Lon over me?”
A silence fell over them as Allie tried to explain that she still wanted Noah in her life she just wanted him as a friend and not as a lover. She also tried to explain how when they’re together, all they do is constantly argue. They can’t even go 5 minutes without disagreeing on something so small.
There were so many thoughts rushing through Noah’s head. He felt like she had just ripped his heart out and thrown it in the fire to burn. And she might as well have because he didn’t want to lose her again, he couldn’t lose her again. That one summer changed his whole life, like he couldn’t have ever even imagined. Even though it was just meant to be a summer fling, he felt like it was forever. He thought that she felt it too. Why would she have chosen Lon over him anyway? Have the past few days meant nothing to her? Was she just using him because she was temporarily bored with Lon? He might not have been able to offer her everything that Lon could, but he was willing to love her and look after her until the end of his days. And he was certain that Lon was incapable of doing this half as well as he could. And he was sure that Allie knew all of this, but she was still choosing Lon over him. Noah’s thoughts all of a sudden drifted to the time he first saw Allie. He never did believe in love at first sight, but the first time he laid eyes on her, his world was changed forever. He knew he had to talk to her that night at the fair many years ago. He was drawn to her; he just had to be close to her. She was the one he wanted. But he couldn’t have her. She wanted Lon. The way he saw it, he lost her once, he could do it again.
Allie drove away in tears, a complete mess. There was no way that she wanted to read the 365 letters that Noah had written to her all those years ago. She didn’t want to bring up those memories again. So she threw them all out the window. She drove straight to the hotel, the only one in town, knowing that Lon would have to be staying there. When she got there she explained everything to Lon. The fact that she had made love to Noah, the fact that she had been staying with him for the past few days to try and sort her head out.
“I know what I did was wrong, but it made me realize that I don’t want Noah anymore. We have no future together, but you and I do and I love you Lon. I still want to marry you and spend the rest of my life with you”
Lon’s thoughts were racing. He didn’t know what to think. He didn’t know what to do or how to react. If she really and truly loved him then why would she have this to him in the first place?
“Allie, I love you. But I doubt that you love me the same way that I do, otherwise you wouldn’t had done what you did and hurt me so. I don’t want to marry you. The wedding is off”
Lon packed his stuff and drove away. Allie was astounded. She was left speechless. How could Lon have done this to her? She felt so drained she didn’t know what else to do. She too packed her stuff and drove back to Noah’s. She knew that Noah would take her back. He would have to.
“No”, Noah said bluntly.
“No? But why?”, exclaimed Allie.
“Because I’m not your first choice. I don’t want you back”
Allie felt drained as she drove away from Noah’s house for the second time today. How could this happen? Just over an hour ago she had two people that were completely in love with her and wanting to spend the rest of their lives together and now she had no one. She didn’t know what else to do but cry.

  1. First off, there's a lot there, and that's a good thing, but also, there's almost *too much*, its quite hard to get into since there's so much going on, with so much information and you obviously wanted to get through alot of stuff in that short amount of space. uh the ending is very melancholic, but very fitting and i enjoyed it. i also thought that the paragraph structuring could've been better, with some clearing spacing between them to make it easier to read.
