Mostly finished

Here's what i've written, it's mostly finished, but if you have some comments on how to improve it and what not, i'd like to hear them.

It was a late autumn afternoon, as he strode into what was probably one of many McDonald’s in Paris. He walked up to the counter, and stood back from the queue to look at the menu. He smirked to himself as he saw “hamburger royale” amongst the French menu.

“He got it wrong” He thought to himself.

He walked up to the nearest counter and managed to fumble through with bad French, then eventually once his meal came up he went and sat down in a booth not far from the back.

He was just sipping on his soda, when a Caucasian man with slick backed hair dressed in a suit sat across from him.

“Excuse me, do I know you?” he said.

“No, not really, but I know you Jules, names Lenny” the man in the suit said as he extended his hand across the table.

Jules stared back at him emotionlessly as he slipped a French fry into his mouth.

“Do you mind telling me why you’re here son?”

Lenny slowly pulled back his hand and then rested his hands on his chin.

“Oh right, sorry yea I work for Marsellus, and no I’m not here to kill you, so you can put your gun away.” Lenny said with a hint of cockiness in his voice.

There was a moment of silence as Jules glared at him with intent. Then just over the general background murmur going on the restaurant there was a barely audible click as the trigger of Jules’ handgun was replaced into its less deadly position. Jules then quickly and smoothly pulled his hand back from under the table and tucked his pistol into the back of his pants and under his shirt.

Lenny reached into his pants pockets and fished out a packet of red apple cigarettes and quickly lit one up and sat back into his chair and crossed his legs.

“You know if there’s one thing about France I like is that you can light up anywhere and no little asshole is going to tell you that you can’t” he said while blowing out a large steam of smoke and a large grin on his face.

“Well now, you’re going to have to excuse a nigger such as myself from engaging in small talk with you, but as you might understand when a man claiming to work for the man I used to work for quite some time ago, I might be a little bit edgy.” Jules said, leaning forward staring straight into Lenny’s eyes.

“Well first off, I’d like to say, it was fairly difficult to track you down in the first place, it’s a good thing you tend to stay in one place for a while”

“…Do you have a point or were you leaving?”
“Now, now… alright, so how would you like to come back to LA and work for Marsellus again...?”

“…Wait, now before you say something, hear me out a little more” Lenny said as Jules was about to interrupt him

“Now, see, I know all about what you’re doing, helping people out and all that shit and I must say that’s nice, but you can’t be all that happy going from, let’s be honest here a fairly respectable hit man for one of the most powerful bosses in LA to hmm…. A Bum” Lenny said

Jules recalled his past life as a hit man working for the notorious gangster; he remembered that the gangster had all together let him go from that life easily. At the time he hadn’t thought about it all that much, but it seems that his boss probably thought he would quickly give up his new found direction in life.

The glare on Jules’ face which would’ve easily stared down his former victims in life softened to one lost in thought. There was something familiar about the man in front of him.

“Tell me Lenny, do you have any family…? Brothers, Sisters you know, all that”

“Well actually I did have two brothers, I believe you knew Vincent”

Jules then realised why the man sitting across him felt somewhat familiar, He was the brother of his former partner. He then recalled how he had heard how he had been gunned down while on the job, the day he had left it.

“Heh, it figures, you sound exactly like him, the last time I saw him, but I’ll tell you the exact same thing I told him” Jules said, his eyes shining with conviction.

“In life I think there are times when a man has to follow his own path, which I believe has been given to me by god, and when I think of all the people I’ve helped, I think maybe that, that’s alright.”

Lenny sat back and blew out another puff of smoke as he absorbed what he had said. He lent forward with his hand on his chin and snubbed out his cigarette.

“So, what should I tell Marsellus then?”

“Do you ever read the Bible?”

“I’ve flipped through it”

“Well there’s a passage in there Ezekiel 25:17, tell Marsellus that I’m still trying very hard to become the Shepard”

With that said, Lenny nodded slightly and then got up and left. Jules watched him leave for a bit, then smiled to himself and continued on with his meal. He thought about the time when he was sure he had witnessed a miracle when a gunman had missed all 6 shots on both him and Vincent, the miracle that had convinced him to wander the earth, he finished his meal and got up, and there were of course still many more people to save.
